The
Youth Activists Organisation (YAO) is a youth non-governmental organisation, or
NGO, that was formed in 1995 by high school graduates, to address some of the
problems affecting Zambian youth, whether civil, environmental, economical or
health. YAO has
actively participated in activities such as
monitoring the 1996 presidential and parliamentary elections under the committee
for a clean campaign and civic education campaign for youths inconjuction with
the Zambia Civic Association. Other activities
include environmental health awareness for secondary schools and adolescent sexual
reproductive health (ASRH) programmes/workshops for both schools and out-of-school
youth. YAO has
extensively travelled to remote areas of Zambia with its ASRH
programmes and other activities.
